PHOENIX — The lawyer representing former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas in attorney-discipline case has decided to continue representing the former prosecutor.
Thomas’ attorney, Don Wilson, had asked a judge to let him withdraw from the case because he said he had no assurances he would paid.
Wilson made the request after Thomas used $100,000 allocated from Maricopa County to his defense.
County officials have since agreed to pay Thomas’ legal expenses in the future.
Wilson now tells the judge that he will continue as Thomas’ attorney.
Thomas is accused of basing criminal investigations of county officials on his animosity toward them.
Thomas says he was trying to root out corruption.
Thomas could face an informal reprimand, censure, suspension or disbarment if found to have violated the professional rules of conduct.
