Most couples plan something special after getting married, an exotic trip, for example. Orange County, CA resident Christopher Paul Shore never quite got that far. Now instead of a honeymoon, Shore’s resources are likely going to a DUI lawyer.
On July 7, 2011, Shore was allegedly driving his SUV with an amount of alcohol over the legal limit in his system when he drifted across four lanes on the I-5 freeway in San Juan Capistrano, crashing into a tree down a dirt embankment on the side of the freeway.
His passenger was none other than his new bride of about seven hours, Tina Wilson Shore. She suffered serious injuries as a result of the alleged accident.
Shore has four prior DUI convictions on his driving record, and now could face up to six years if convicted of felony drunk driving with great bodily injury involved. Prior to the accident, the newlywed couple had been celebrating with friends at a local BJ’s Brewery Restaurant and then a local pub called Mugs Away.
Because there were severe injuries involved in the DUI accident, Shore faces penalty enhancements that could tack on three more years to his initial sentence.
A couple of lessons here: The obvious, drinking and driving carries some serious risks, to yourself- and to others. Shore faces up to six years because of his history of prior DUIs and because there were substantial injuries incurred by another person involved in the accident. In this case- his wife! DUI attorneysdefending cases where the DUI was a first time offense often have wider range than a DUI lawyer defending a case where there are four prior offenses. Of course every case is different.
Probably not the ideal way to start off a marriage. I am interested to see where the marriage goes from this point. Perhaps some counseling will be needed, that is, if Mrs. Shore decides to stick around after everything.
