Arizona DUI Enforcement to Increase During Holiday Season

Along with Santa and his twelve reindeer, holiday season also ensures a higher prevalence of drinking and driving. One too many glasses of eggnog with friends and family can result in both costly and cumbersome legal consequences.

Police across Arizona are ramping up enforcement for those Driving Under the Influence (DUI) this holiday season. Motorists can expect to see increased sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. In November, Arizona spent over $1 million dollars on vehicles to be used for its DUI crackdown season.

Pima County has announced that it will be stepping up DUI enforcement over the holiday season promising a substantial increase in sobriety checkpoints. They also note an increase in drunk-driving fatalities in the month of December.

MaricopaCounty has also reminded everyone of the pitfalls of drunk driving over the holidays. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has enlisted his female DUI chain gang to hit the streets in December.

The female DUI chain gang is a group of female prison inmates. They wear pink uniforms and perform various community tasks like picking up trash. The chain gangs have been deployed to high traffic areas to remind residents of the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving.
